It isn't missing, but in the wrong place. Cornerstones are usually placed in the northwest, but the White House one is in the southwest. It was laid Oct. 13, 1792. When Truman remodeled the White House the question of the cornerstone came up and a search was done. They found it in the southwest and there it has stayed.
