Which engine??? If it's the 5.4 it is on the number 3 cylinder. Which is the third one back on the driver side of the engine.
Number 1 cylinder is not firing properly probably a bad coil pack or a bad coil depending on the engine

There are no spark plugs in a diesel engine therefor no plug wires thus no distributor and no coil.

the number 5 cylinder on a 2003 3.0L Ford Escape is going to be located in the front 3 cylinders of the engine and is the middle cylinder of the front three. To help you out on the coil packs there should be a white tag that will have the cylinder and coil numbers on the tag. This will assure you that you have the right cylinder.
The number one cylinder on a Ford E150 2001 with a 4.2 coil is on the left, just behind the fan. The firing order for this engine is 1, 4, 3, 5, 3, 6.

the cylinder numbers on a v-8 engine are numbered from the left bank or cylinder head. standing in front of the vehicle , the nearest plug on the left side of engine is number one w/ remaining being two ,three & four. plug number five starts nearest to right front of vehicle w/ six ,seven ,& eight following toward the rear of engine . each coil is numbered the same as the cylinder plug.
