The oil filter on the 2006 V6 Sonata is a "cartridge" type rather than a "spin-on" type. It is located on the top, right hand side of the engine, (looking at the engine bay from the front of the car). You must first remove the engine cover, (secured by four 10mm nuts and two 10mm bolts). Once this is done you should see a black plastic cap / cover which once unscrewed will reveal the oil filter cartridge element. Hope this helps.
The 1999 Sonata oil filter can be found on the right hand side of the engine. The oil filter will be near the bottom of the engine next to the oil pan.
