The oil filter is on the right (passenger) side of the motor. It is incapsualted in a casing held down by a hex screw. Remove the screw and the filter slide out of the sleeve.

On 1996 Mercedes S500 the cabin air filter will be located on the large rear plenum assembly behind the intake manifold. This will be on the right-front (passenger) side of the vehicle secured by 6 screws. The plenum-cover can be lifted right off and the new cabin air filter dropped in.
