Just above the brake pedal on the pedal shaft.
If you are unable to press in the button to move the shifter. Replaces the brake switch connected to the brake pedal.
The one on the master cylinder is the brake light switch. The one on the brake pedal is for the automatic transmission, assuming that the car is automatic.
I repaced the brake power booster on my 72 vette now the brake lights come on automatic as soon as i start the car i can visually see the brake pedal go down maybe one inch thats all it takes for the brake light switch to dinsingage that little button at the end of the brake switch that petrudes causing brakes to come on is there a adjustment?
To replace the brake light switch on a 1991 Ford Tempo, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Locate the brake light switch, which is typically mounted above the brake pedal. Remove the wiring connector from the switch, then unbolt the switch from its bracket. Install the new switch by reversing the removal process, ensuring it is properly adjusted so the brake lights function correctly when the pedal is pressed.
The brake light is controlled by a little button switch that's mounted high on the brake pedal lever. If you follow the brake pedal upwards with your fingers, you'll feel the button. It has a spring in the button that pushes the button back out when you release the brake pedal. If the spring jams, the brake lights stay on. Replace the button switch.
If you do a search for the Camaro brake switch, you'll see that the switch has a main case and a shaft. The shaft appears to be threaded, but instead they are tension slip rings. At the end of the shaft is the switch button. The shaft slides through the brake pedal mount, which has a tension ring to hold the switch in place. Slide the shaft so that the switch button is completely compressed against the upper brake pedal plate. In operation, when the brake pedal is pressed, the upper plate moves away from the switch button, releasing it and allowing the internal contact to make the circuit engage, and the brake lights illuminate. For Camaros with the 'third-eye' brake light, a second brake switch is located next to the main switch.
You need to adjust your brake light switch. It should be located on the brake pedal. Unplug the switch and loosen the nuts to adjust the button closer to the brake pedal.
There is a brake switch under the dash immediately in front of the brake pedal arm. It has a little button on it that is depressed when the brake is off, but when you press on the brake pedal, the button comes out and the brake lights come on. I'm still trying to get mine out, so if anyone figures out how to do that, I'd like to know. :)
Look directly up from brake pedal, under the dash. You'll see when you mash the brake down, it contacts a little button, which is the brake switch. The switch is a plug, you pull it out to replace, you push it in. simple.
brake light switch above the brake pedal
