The silicon stuff is to help keep the spark plug boots from sticking to the spark plug, so put it in the spark plug boot.
ignition is spring loaded.unscrew dash and push in ignition and turn it comes right out.
Drop the steering wheel, at the back of the ignition there are wires with a screw in the middle edge. Remove the screw, unplug the connector and it comes right out.
You will need to remove your steering wheel and remove all internals. There is a 10mm bolt that holds the ignition in place. When you remove that it will slide right out.

silicon and oxygen and yes i am sure this is right
Silicon(Si) has atomic number 14. It is located under Carbon and right of Aluminum.
Oxygen and Silicon are elements in their own right. They do NOT contain aanything else. However, Silicon and Oxygen can combine to form the molecule 'Silicon Dioxide' ( SiO2 ), of which is sand on the beach is an impure form, mixed with oxides of other elements.
* Turn on ignition. * Hold down Right trip button and continue to do so whilst turning off ignition. * Still with Right trip button held down turn ignition back on. * Release Right trip button. * With ignition still on turn Left trip button to the Right and release. * Turn off ignition.
Common compounds found in silicon include silicon dioxide (SiO2), silicon carbide (SiC), and silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4). Silicon dioxide, in the form of quartz or sand, is the most abundant compound and is used in making glass and ceramics. Silicon carbide is a hard material used in abrasive products and cutting tools, while silicon tetrachloride is a precursor in the production of silicon metal.
The coil for ignition is right in front of the distributor. Open the bonnet and look at your left, between Powersteering tank and suspension, it should be there. Seek a sticker with ''coil igniter'' it's black and a single ignition cable comes out to the distributor.
If it's a MKIV Golf.* Turn on ignition.* Hold down Right trip button and continue to do so whilst turning off ignition.* Still with Right trip button held down turn ignition back on.* Release Right trip button.* With ignition still on turn Left trip button to the Right and release.* Turn off ignition.
