The thermostat on the 2001 Mitsubishi Galant is located behind the neck where the bottom radiator hose hits the block. I found the easiest way to get to the thermostat is to remove the battery. Be prepared to remove alot of screws. You'll need a pair of pliers, a 10mm & 13mm socket. ! Q
