SN's were not required before 1968. Check under the forearm
Continental Arms was a importer of high quality long guns from the 1950's to 1970's. Is your gun over/under, side/side, or possible a single shot. The value NiB could be several thousand to a few hundred for one that shows signs of use.
Many early ones may not have a serial number. If they do, it will most likely be on the side of the receiver. There is a small chance it will be inside, after you remove the barrel.

They were made for a long time. If it has a serial number, it is post-1968.
Oxford Arms Company was a trade name used by the Crescent Firearms Company on shotguns made for the Belknap Hardware Company of Louisville, Kentucky, c. 1890-1920. It will not have a serial number. I have an Oxford 16 gauge side-by-side. It has a serial number. Take the barrels off and it is in the slot that holds the barrels. Sorry, Danny, I should have said it MAY not have a serial number. Even if there is one, There are no records available to date these old utility grade shotguns.
You will have to provide the serial number. Alternatively, you can call Browning with the serial number and they will tell you. Some serial number information is on line at their website.

Go to www.lcsmith.org for a near complete listing by year and serial number....it is probably not pre 1913. There should be a serial number a serial number under the forestock, on the flat of the barrel, and on the water table of the receiver. Good luck.
It should have a date on the right side of the vertical part of the receiver, right behind the bolt handle. It will have date, serial number, and factory mark. One of mine is 1916 (serial number) BsA (Birmingham Small Arms Company).
