it is connected by two 17mm bolts
On an American 65 VW Bug the ignition switch is mounted on the dash and on the European model its mounted on the steering column.

To make ginger beer using a ginger bug starter, combine water, sugar, grated ginger, and the ginger bug in a jar. Let it ferment for a few days, then strain out the solids and bottle the liquid. Allow it to carbonate for a few more days before refrigerating and enjoying your homemade ginger beer.

You will probably have to remove the exhaust system to get it down.
I can't imagine why you would need a diagram, there are only about four wires in the VW bug engine compartment, coil, and generator.(if it's not a bug I am not sure)
It's on top of the transmission case. To get to it, go under the car on the passenger side, near the right rear wheel. Look on top of the transmission case at the widest end and you'll see a large cylindrical object - that's the starter. There will be a smaller cylinder on top of the starter - that is the solenoid. If you need to replace the starter, it is recommended that you replace both the starter and solenoid.
It is a very involved project and too difficult to explain. Go buy a repair manual and it will give you step-by-step instructions. the starter will run you about 65 dollars
No, the hood will not fit. 1965 is pre-Super Beetle; 1973 is post Super Beetle. The 65 hood is going to be much more narrow and arched then a Super Beetle hood or anything past their early transitions to the Super beetle which started to transpire in June of 1971
To make a ginger bug at home, combine equal parts grated ginger, sugar, and water in a jar. Stir daily and feed with more ginger and sugar for about a week until it becomes bubbly and active. This ginger bug can be used as a natural starter for homemade sodas and fermented drinks.
You should be able to use the same starter and wiring from the original engine if the flywheel has the same diameter. Changing to a different diameter flywheel would require you to change the nosepiece on the starter.
