The starter for a 1998 Cavalier is mounted on the side of the engine. It is at the rear, near the bottom.

Follow the + battery cable its the small part of the starter where the wires hook up

Remove the positive cable from your 1998 Chevy Cavalier battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new starter.
un hook the negitve on the battery. then unhook all the wires from the back of the starter solenoid. then put the two bolts that hod the starter to the block, should be out after that.
