The thermostat on a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII is located in the engine compartment, specifically at the front of the engine, near the water pump. To access it, you typically need to remove the upper radiator hose and the thermostat housing. Be sure to allow the engine to cool before attempting any work to avoid burns from hot coolant. Always refer to a repair manual for specific instructions and torque specifications when replacing the thermostat.
