Depends on the size of the motor ..more info retaining that would be helpful ,but i will give it a shot ..If its the 3.1 litre 6 cylinder engine ,it is located on the drivers side of the engine. On the lower half of the intake manifold under the air horn that the air cleaner tube hooks to .It is located behind the thermostat housing that the upper radiator hose is hooked to....If its the 2.4 litre 4 cylinder engine, its located inside the radiator outlet pipe that hooks to the rear of the water pump at the passenger side rear of the engine. Either of the engines are hard to change and takes around 2 hours to replace.

How do you change a thermostat in a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am?

To change the thermostat in a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the coolant from the radiator, then locate the thermostat housing, which is typically near the engine's upper radiator hose. Remove the housing bolts, take out the old thermostat, and clean the mating surfaces before installing the new thermostat with the correct orientation. Finally, reassemble the housing, refill the coolant, and reconnect the battery cable.
