it is a 5 speed automatic transmission that allows the driver to shift manually. Of course it can just be left in auto mode too.
There are is only 1 size dipstick for a given engine. There is another dipstick for automatic transmission, but there is only 1 size for it.
if its an automatic transmission, its filled through the dipstick tube (youd better have a funnel for this!) if its a manual, there is a 15/16 plug on the front side of the trans. remove it and fill through there.
You should edit your question. To provide an accurate answer you need to mention whether you have a manual or automatic transmission and then which transmission. They're different between the 4 and 6 cylinder and between Gen I and Gen II Solaras. Or, download the factory service manual from Toyota which will have that data. You can also purchase the Chilton or Haynes maintenance manuals for Solara. All will have capacities along with complete instructions for replacing transmission fluids. Cheers
The 2001 Solara is fuel injected. There is no carburetor. Cheers
dexron III
It comes in handy knowing the amount of transmission fluid a car will hold. The 1999 Toyota Solara will need 5 quarts of Dexron III fluid.
Yes, but as with most automatic transmission cars the drive wheels (front in this case) have to be off the ground. You'll need a 'dolly' type trailer. The front wheels are carried by the trailer while the rears are still on the roadway. If the transmission were manual and not automatic you could get away with leaving all four wheels on the ground and using a tow bar. Cheers
Look for a transmission hose line on the radiator, you can unplug it, run the engine and pour new transmission into where the tranny dipstick is at the same time it drains from the hose. Get ready, you'll need about 10 litres of the right automatic transmission fluid type too. check the tranny dipstick to see what kind of atf fluid it needs.
Check your owners manual. It says:Change automatic transmission fluid only as necessary. Generally, it is necessary to changeautomatic transmission fluid only if your vehicle is driven under one of the Special Operating Conditions listed in your "Scheduled Maintenance Guide" or "Owner's Manual Supplement". When changing the automatic transmission fluid, use only "Toyota Genuine ATF Type T- IV"(ATF JWS3309 or NWS6500) to aid in assuring optimum transaxle performance.Notice: Using automatic transmissionfluid other than "Toyota Genuine ATF Type T- IV" may cause deterioration in shift quality, locking up of your transmission accompanied by vibration, and ultimately damage the automatic transmission of your vehicle.
You add transmission fluid through the same tube where the transmission dipstick is located. You need a funnel used for transmission oil. The funnel is long, narrow and the end can fit into the dipstick tube.
There are about half-a-dozen Solara models for that year. Some have four-cylinder engines, some are six cylinder. Some have manual transmissions while others are automatic. They all get different EPA mileage numbers. Those numbers range from a high of 20 mpg city, 29 mpg highway for the 4 cylinder manual transmission car to 17 mpg city, 24 mpg for the six-cylinder automatic transmission convertible. If you're looking for numbers for a different model they're all posted at fueleconomy.gov. Cheers
