The 5.4 liter V8 engine , available in the 1998 Ford Expedition has a Coil On Plug ( C.O.P. ) ignition system
The engine coolant drain plug, on a 1998 Ford expedition, is located on the bottom of the radiator. The drain plug will come out by turning to the left.
on the driver side on top of differential hub
If you have an automatic transmission there is no drain plug, you'll have to drop the pan to change the fluid. If you have a manual transmission the drain plug is in the center on the bottom.
I had the same problem with a 1999 Expedition and it was a bad plug. Ford had a problem also with the plugs blowing out. It cost me about 1200.00
The manual transmission does not have a dipstick , there will be a fill plug somewhere on the transmission body

There is a hole where the fluid is running out at the bottom of the car. Can this part be replaced easily?
We found out the answer to what we were needing. We found a piece that fell out when hubby was changing the transmission fluid. We found out that it is a useless plug that is not needed after all. Thought I would throw this out there in case it could help someone else.

I believe the fill plug is on the drivers side of the transmission - with the vehicle level , clean the area around the fill plug and then remove the fill plug and see if the fluid level is level with the bottom of the hole. ( IT IS THE UPPER PLUG , THE LOWER PLUG IS THE DRAIN PLUG )
