The numbering for latitude begins at the equator ... that's "zero" ... and goes north and south from there.
From the equator, 90° is the farthest you can go in either direction. 90° north is the north pole,
and 90° south is the south pole.
There are 90 degrees of latitude in each half of the globe.

there are 36 lines of latitude respectively
latitude
A full circle around the globe is 360 degrees. This measurement is based on the Earth's latitude and longitude system, where the equator is at 0 degrees latitude and the poles are at 90 degrees north and south. Each degree of longitude represents a segment of the Earth's circumference, with 360 lines of longitude running from pole to pole.
The lines on the globe are not called "latitude", any more than the marks on a thermometer are called "temperature". The lines on the globe that mark intervals of latitude are called "parallels" of latitude.

latitude and longitude
Latitude is measured north or south of the equator. Longitude is measured east or west of Greenwich. You can remember that because Longitude circles are always long.

It is known as the "equator".
