I'm not an expert but i took a CPR course so i know the basic steps. First you check for a pulse and tell someone to call 911. If there is no one else there, don't call for help and go straight to the following steps- Put one hand on top of the other and do 30 chest compressions- for infants use only two fingers- then plug the victims nose and seal your mouth around the victim's mouth. Breath into their mouth as hard as you can- you should see their chest rise. Then take a deep breath and breath into them again. Continue until either a. the scene becomes unsafe b. you find signs of life c. you are too exhausted to continue d.a trained responder shows up or e. an AED is available and you are trained to use it.
Use the heel of your hand between the victim's shoulder blades.
Back blows are not to be given during CPR. The only time you give back blows are when an infant is chocking.
Tilt the head open airway squeeze nostrils and blow into mouth
give them back blows or something like that
The Heimlich maneuver with back blows is used for only conscious choking in Adults & Children (not infants). This was changed from the Heimlich maneuver only in 2005.
uppward and back ward thrust
NO... you should do the Heimlich Maneuver ...Ask the choking person to stand if he or she is sitting ...Reassure the victim that you know the Heimlich maneuver and are going to help ...Place yourself slightly behind the standing victim ...Place your arms around the victim's waist ...Make a fist with one hand and place your thumb toward the victim, just above his or her belly button ...Grab your fist with your other hand ...Deliver five upward squeeze-thrusts into the abdomen ...Make each squeeze-thrust strong enough to dislodge a foreign body ...Understand that your thrusts make the diaphragm move air out of the victim's lungs, creating a kind of artificial cough ...Keep a firm grip on the victim, since he or she can lose consciousness and fall to the ground if the Heimlich maneuver is not effective ...Repeat the Heimlich maneuver until the foreign body is expelled ...
Slapping a person in the back when they are choking can help, but it can also cause injury. The Heimlich maneuver is always best when a person is choking.
abdominal thrusts/heimlich for those less than 1 year old: 5 back blows and 5 chest thrusts
If someone is wheezing and cannot talk, begins to turn blue or is unable to breath, you should perform the Heimlich maneuver. If the person is able to cough, the are likely able to come out of it themselves.
no its blows up! :)
This would be the heimlich manoevre. this is used for choking. * If the victim shows signs of mild airway obstruction: * Encourage him to continue coughing, but do nothing else. * If the victim shows signs of severe airway obstruction and is conscious: * Give up to five back blows. ** Stand to the side and slightly behind the victim. ** Support the chest with one hand and lean the victim well forwards so that when the obstructing object is dislodged it comes out of the mouth rather than goes further down the airway. ** Give up to five sharp blows between the shoulder blades with the heel of your other hand. ** Check to see if each back blow has relieved the airway obstruction. The aim is to relieve the obstruction with each blow rather than necessarily to give all five. * If five back blows fail to relieve the airway obstruction give up to five abdominal thrusts (see Heimlich manoeuvre below). ** Stand behind the victim and put both arms round the upper part of his abdomen. ** Lean the victim forwards. ** Clench your fist and place it between the umbilicus (navel) and the bottom end of the sternum (breastbone). ** Grasp this hand with your other hand and pull sharply inwards and upwards. ** Repeat up to five times. * If the obstruction is still not relieved, continue alternating five back blows with five abdominal thrusts.
it depends on a choked victim.... adult or infant.... if you have an adult victim, on the onset have a back blow using your palm until the foreign object is expel if not effective have the Heimlich maneuver.......... on the infant have 5 back blows and 5 chest thrust
If it is lodged in your throat, and you can't get it out, have someone perform the Heimlich Maneuver. If you are alone, pull your fist into your upper abdomen, or bend over the back of a chair and force it against your abdomen. **Though, I highly doubt that anyone needing the Heimlich would have the time to do an internet search to find this answer. As a matter of fact, it was the 3rd result on Google for me. That said, if you DO need the Heimlich, you're probably currently choking to death on your floor and can't read this right now. Sorry.**
The Heimlich Maneuver is a first-aid technique for someone who is choking because food or another swallowed object is obstructing his or her airway. Using an upward abdominal thrust, the Heimlich maneuver compresses the lungs and forces air up into the windpipe (trachea). The usual technique is done while standing behind the victim. Reach around his waist to the abdomen just above the navel and below the sternum. Clench one fist and use the other to press it into the abdomen. Lift both fists sharply inward and upward to compress the lungs. Repeat if necessary unless vomiting occurs.
