What is cohesionless granular materials?

Materials which have a low to zero moisture content, where the individual particles do not bond and material will flow at a relatively low angle due to the low particle friction.

Effects of moisture on electricity?

In foods, this indicates the percentage of water in the total weight of the food. This exceeds the dry weight, and is a portion of the water used in processing. In lumber, this indicates the remaining water after drying of the wood. Kiln-dried lumber will normally have a lower moisture content than air-dried.

Why sheet steel with high silicon content is used in transformer core whereas lower silicon content sheet for rotating machine?

high permeability ,low hysterisis,increased resistivity

Looking for the composition of electrolytic tough pitch copper?

ETP is 99.5%+ pure copper that is very low in oxygen content it is the most common wire used for transformers Silver content in the wire is consider copper for purity analysis

How do you tanalise timber?

Timber is 'TANALISED' (treated) in an industrial treatment vessel using TANALITH preservative applied using vacuum pressure technology. TANALITH and TANALISED are registered trade marks of the preservative manufacturer, Arch Timber Protection, and may only be used to describe industrial timber treatment using TANALITH preservative. The treatment process consists of 5 stages: 1. Timber is loaded into the treatment vessel. An initial vacuum is applied, and the timber cells are evacuated of air. This vacuum is held. 2. The cylinder is flooded under vacuum with TANALITH wood preservative. 3. Hydraulic pressure is applied, forcing the preservative deep into the structure of the timber. 4. A final vacuum extracts excess preservative solution, which is then pumped back into storage. 5. Low pressure inside timber draws in surface solution when vented to atmosphere. The treated timber is then left to dry - a minimum holding time of 48 hours is recommended. In Europe, TANALITH E preservative is used, which contains copper and triazole biocides, which are commonly used to protect food crops. TANALISED E pressure treated timber can be used in a range of applications, from construction timbers through to heavy duty, highway fencing applications, where a desired service life of 15 years plus can reasonably be expected. Note that where TANALISED treated timber is cross cut, notched or bored following treatment, liberal coating of ENSELE end grain preservative is required to maintain the integrity of the preservative system. Further information on TANALITH E and the treatment process can be found on the Arch Timber Protection website at www.archtp.com. General information regarding timber treatments is available on the Wikipedia site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/wood_preservation

How does a moisture meter give a reading of the moisture content of wood?

By passing an electrical current from one pin to the other. The greater the moisture content, the higher the resistance. By measuring the resistance, it gives an estimate of the average moisture content. I think. 2009/03/14 - Correct, but exactly backwards .... Moisture (water) can be a conductor. Dry wood is an insulator. The higher the moisture content, the lower the resistance and vice-versa. Wood with a high moisture content gives a low resistance to the tester and conducts the test voltage better.

How does wind direction affect moisture content?

Wind direction is the direction which the wind blows. If the wind direction is coming from an arid region, such as a desert, the air will be dry and moisture content will be low. If the wind direction is coming from an ocean, lake, or tropical area, the air will have a higher moisture content.

How is harmatten worsening desertification in the region of Africa?

harmattan winds have a low moisture content making it unpleasant

Why dew point measurement is necessary in nitrogen filled transformer?

Short Answer: Dew point measurement is necessary to ensure the moisture content of the cellulose insulation is low enough to safely energize the transformer (after filling with oil). Maximum acceptable moisture content varies with unit size/age, but less than 1% moisture content is generally acceptable.

Honey can be kept without decaying?

Honey has a very low moisture content. That is why is can last so long without spoiling.

Is jalapeno cheese bread a potentially hazardous food?

Bread is not potentially hazardous because of it's low moisture content/

Why don't McDonald's french fries rot?

Contrary to popular belief, it is not because of the alleged chemicals and toxins McDonald's shoves into their foods. It is not something spectacular that McDonald's created. The real reason is because of the low moisture content in the food. Since McDonald's food is high fat, that leads to low moisture content. When there is low moisture content, the meal cannot decompose properly.

What does millar afpa 23 s-p-f kd-hi 2 mean on lumber that I bought from a friend mean?

H1 The treatment level for low hazard situations where timber is not exposed to the weather. Its major use is for framing timber and interior linings. This is split into two categories. H1.1 Timber used in situations protected from the weather, dry in service and where resistance to borer only is required. H1.2 Timber used in situations protected from the weather but where there is a risk of moisture exposure conducive to decay.
