I'd suggest hunting gem slimes, if you're able to do this. Each time you defeat a gem slime, you net 10 000 gold coins. You can find them in high-level ruins and cavern grottoes, but be careful because they can use Magic Burst and hit hard with standard attacks too. Gem jamborees (lower level ruins grottoes) and gold golems (the pit south of Gleeba) also get you 500 to 2000 coins per kill, if you can't handle gem slimes.

This is useful if you were trying for the alchemiracle Hypernova Sword, and failed, it lets you reset the weapon to the base level rather than have to find another one.
