Your kitten will take several hours to grow into a cat (of varying types) and you MUST feed it.
If you do Swan Song, and have obtained the Ring of Charos (a) you can go to Gertude and get a cat of whichever color you would like.

This is part of the Evil Dave Recipe for Disaster Side-Quest, you go to his basement and you set your kitten/cat on the Hell Rats and after killing a few it will turn into a hell cat/kitten. P.S you cannot do this with Overgrown/lazy Cats.
