You will have to delete all Google related information from your myTouch, so make a copy of any Google related data so you don't lose it. Click on"Menu." Select "Settings," followed by"Applications", "Manage Applications" and then tap"Google Apps." This function is all Google-related applications on your myTouch. To erase all Google information, click on "Clear Data." You have now erased all Google-related data, including your old Gmail address. You can now set up a new Gmail account.

Not sure why its happening, however if you go into settings to applications to manage applications then go to the market, click it then clear the cache you should be good to go...
