FIRST: As you read this, always make necessary preparations for storms, power outages, or water supply deficiencies even before a hurricane has been announced. Keep plenty of water in case there should be any damage to the water supply/pipes. Have lantern and candles in a place where you know to find them.
If a hurricane has been spotted you should look at your local news reports, or listen to the radio. They will let you know where the shelters are in your area. When the hurricane hits if you are at home, try to stay away from windows and doors.
In your car: DO NOT try to maneuver through the hurricane if you are driving. Instead try to look for shelter in nearby zones, again don't be afraid to look for help locally. Call 911 if things are getting risky for you. Look for a high place where water wont be likely to flood and park your car.
Most hurricanes are not known to be able to lift cars, so if you can keep away from flooding you can safely stay in your car until help arrives. While in the car, DO NOT park your car anywhere where a tree might fall on. You might get crushed inside your car.
The thunderstorm might go down and turn into a tornado and then when it hits the ocean it might turn into a hurricane
