Depends on what you plan on doing with it. For power use while you're parked I suggest taking it directly from the battery (or running that to a splitter [for a separate trailer battery] - relay preferred - so that you don't kill the car battery overnight).

Do not purchase a universal harness. Purchase an OEM type trailer harness for your ride and it will fit perfectly and be basically a plug in type. It will cost more but is worth it. Unlike other harnesses, however, the liberty also has a ground wire and a "hot" wire from the converter. After plugging the harness into the exiting plugs, you have to ground the converter, and then run a hot wire (with an inline fuse) to the battery. This hot wire, as per mfgr. provide power to the trailer lights.

Whoever put the trailer wiring on either cross wired something or a wire got pinched somewhere. Unplug the trailer and try it. If it still blows, it in on the jeep, probably where the wire is spliced in. If it only does it when the trailer is plugged in , you can disconnect each wire one at a time till you find the one that is shorting out. It is just a process of ellimination. The person that did it should be the one to fix it if that is possible.
