If your looking for a good day birding in england i would advise to go to Titchwell Marsh,North Norfolk or Scilly isle off the coast of Cornwall.

Scilly Isle, especially in early october bring rare american vagrants.

i.e

Spotted Sandpiper

Lesser & Greater Yellowlegs

Red Flanked Bluetail

Solitary Sandpiper

If your planning to go to titichwell in winter it is a good time for sea watching. You get both scoter Eider and possibly Long tailed duck as well as bittern and waterail. In summer you will stand a chance of getting a couple of rarities during the few month, like last week a Little Bittern turned up.
