Carl Jacob Löwig also discovered bromine in Germany during 1825 by extracting it from a solution of mineral salt from a spring and chlorine. The publication of his results was delayed and Balard's were published first.
Bromine was discovered by a German chemist named Carl Lowig in Heidelberg Germany, and a French chemist in Montpellier France, named Antoine J. Balard about the same time in 1826.
