I believe it was much older than described below. I attended a night picnic from my teen youth group from my church there and it was in 1951 or 1952. As I remember they had a changing room which cost 25 cents and a concession stand. The "lake" was a large pool with wooden sidings more oblong than round. The creek was used to feed the "lake". As I remember, snakes were a real problem and swimmers had to get out of the pool several times when snakes were sighted. All in all, I think the place had been there from sometime in the 1940's
It was in or near Eight Mile.
It was a large concrete man made lake & recreational facility in the late 60's and into the early 70's. It was actually a large pool with a stone wall surrounding it. A small creek flowed on the outside of the wall. There were red wooden carts with two bicycle wheels which you could rent to carry your picnic items to the picnic area. There were several large slides in the "deep" end of the pool as well.
There was a smaller pool for children near the snack area which had a rope that separated it from the deeper end.
There used to bve local bands who played on the weekends at night but was later stopped because of the "rebellious" kids of the 60's.
The area is now a cementary and the concrete lake has been removed. I spoke with a man who has lived there 40 years and he said the neighborhood is now very bad.
The area is not recognizable any longer. I have many childhood memories of that place including where I met my first girlfriend and got my first kiss at closing time in the pool.
For those of us who remember it, there was nothing like it.
