I guess you could be right but that don't explain why he was wet. It said he was buried at sea couldn't it be a possible ghost of lob or anything like that ?
Lob out is British slang for "throw out" As in "I am going to lob/throw out this broken table".

Well, personally I responded sad to the fact that her dog died, but I also responded surprised to find out that the dog disappeared when Granny Pierce looked to her side. It's not just that Lob dided. In the end, it says - after Granny peirce, Mr. and Mrs Pengelly stop talking - they look at the "wet" footprints on the hospital stairs. Key word there, "wet". It get's you thinking some how Lob was still alive and when he was buried out at sea he finds his was out and gets to the hospital just to see Sandy. The whole point at the beginning of the author saying Lob was trying to get to Sandy was because in the end Lob finds his way to Sandy for, what is it, the fifth time?? and immediately after Lob whines Sandy is out of her coma talking to Lob, of course.
In the story "Lob," the dog Lob gets lost after running away from his owner. Lob is eventually found and taken to the pound, but the owner realizes how much Lob means to him and comes back to adopt him. The story ends on a happy note with Lob and his owner reunited.
