London
The 1831 John Rennie designed bridge was bought and shipped to Arizona it replaced an older bridge (600 years old). The current London Bridge which dates from 1973 is still located in London at the same site where a bridge has stood for 2,000 years.
It depends on how far back you want to go. The present London Bridge opened in 1973 and the previous one opened in 1820. The one before that was opened hundreds of years ago.
Because the original bridge was the ONLY bridge in London at that time.
Yes
This depends on which London Bridge is meant. There were various wooden and stone bridges that preceded the current London Bridge. The original London Bridge, which featured an intricate complex of houses, shops and a chapel, 19 small arches and a drawbridge with a gatehouse at each end, took 33 years to construct (1176-1209). This was replaced by a new bridge which took six years to build (1825-1831). Construction of the most recent London Bridge was begun in 1967 before the previous bridge was removed (and which now resides in Arizona), so took around five years to build, being completed in 1972.
It was the first bridge across the River Thames in London (built by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago) and was the only bridge across the Thames in London until 1729.
