Mughal Empress Mumtaz Mahal was temporarily buried in the garden of Zainabad at Burhanpur, where Shah Jahan was then encamped. After six months her body was brought to Agra. It was then buried in a temporary tomb at on the banks of River Yamuna, while the construction of the magnificent mausoleum was in progress. It was then placed inside the Taj Mahal, where it now lies.
