King Herod was told that the ruler would come from Bethleham in Judea. In Matthew chapter 2 verse 6.
They escaped to Egypt to escape from King Herod because the Wise Men told him about Jesus (they didn't know they were putting him in danger he told them he would send presents and things)and he was jealus. God told the Wise men not to go back and tell King Herod because he would kill Jesus but King Herod then orded every new born to be killed.
Yes, they told Herod that they were seeking the prophesied new born King of the Jews. They did not use any names as they did not know them, they did not even know where to look so they assumed that Herod would already know.
Moses
John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod the king. Herod did not like it that John told him he was a sinner.
The wise men followed the star to Jerusalem and then asked Herod the Great where the "new born King" was to be born. Herod inquired of the chief priests and scribes and they told him, Bethlehem. Then the wise men followed the star to where Jesus was.
the magi--------------These 'magi'(astrologers from the east) informed Herod of the arrival of this 'king', but the details as to where Messiah would be born came from 'the chief priests and the scribes'(Matthew 2:1-7/Micah 5:2)
When word got out that King Herod was after Jesus and his family, they escaped to Egypt. Jesus was thought to be the King of Kings and Herod thought of him as a threat.
This question has its timeline mixed. The account in Matthew 2 has Wise Men following the star from the East and asking for the King of the Jews to soon be born. This occurred during the reign of King Herod. When the King heard of this, he summoned his scribes to inquire about the place this birth event was to happen. They told him in Bethlehem per the prophecy in Micah 5:2. Herod then secretly summoned these Wise Men sending them to Bethlehem asking that they tell him where/when they find this new King. Matthew 2:3-6 - When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.' " [NKJV]
The Magi did not return to King Herod because they were warned in a dream not to go back to him. They were told to go home by a different route to avoid King Herod, who had asked them to report back to him after finding the newborn king of the Jews. This was likely to protect the child Jesus from Herod's malicious intentions.
The Wise men told king Herod that the messiah would take over him and that the messiah is a child. Jesus was hiding because he was the messiah and did not want to get killed by king Herod.
