The Phantom of the Opera opened in the West End in 1986, and on Broadway in 1988. It is the longest running musical in Broadway history, after overtaking Cats in 2006, and the second-longest-running West End musical.
It was performed while still in the development process to Andrew Lloyd Webber's close friends on his estate. It was first shown to the public as the final result most people are familiar with at Her Majesty's theatre. Obviously, I am referring to the 1988 musical.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical was actually first shown while it was still in the development process at a small building (it might have been a chapel, I am not sure.) on his estate to close friends. When it was first shown to the public as the final result everyone is familiar with, it was shown at Her Majesty's theatre.

The box five, is very important to the Phantom, it is the best seat in the opera-house, he wants the best seat for himself, when he is ready to watch the show.
It is around two and a half hours with a fifteen minute intermission.
The conflict in Phantom is the love triangle that goes on in the show. Both the Phantom and Raoul want Christine to love them but Christine can only choose one. I like how Christine is on Raoul's side throughout the whole show/movie, but you can still get little hints that she does somewhat love the Phantom. If she didn't, she wouldn't want to be around him.

There are several versions of the Phantom of the Opera. The 2004 version with Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler lasts 2 hours and 38 minutes. The Robert Englund 1989 version lasts only 1 hour and 55 minutes.
For many years, the Phantom of the Opera, which opened in 1983, was the highest grossing Broadway show. More recently, in 2012, the Lion King surpassed the Phantom of the Opera to become the highest grossing Broadway. The Lion King opened in 1997, and although not open as long as The Phantom of the Opera, the ticket prices are higher, resulting in more box office receipts.
The Phantom of the Opera is still currently running at the Majestic Theatre, but it has about played about 9219 shows, and had opened on January 26, 1988. As of 2010, it has been running for 22 years.
