Known as a 'change of venue', usually requested by the defense, it moves a trial out of the county or district where the crime occured to another location, for crimes that have garnered a lot of pre-trial publicity. It is meant to insure an unbiased jury pool and a fair and just verdict for the defendant.

At the time she was 8 months pregnant so Scott was also charged with the murder of the unborn boy baby named Conner. Scott Peterson was found guilty of both murders and was sentenced to death by lethal injection. Peterson now sits on San Quentin's death row.
