maybe France, because in France "un sou" may mean an old coin.
e.g: Je n'ai pas de sous (I don't have money)
Not nearly enough information. Please post a new question with the coin's date and denomination. Also include any wording EXCEPT "Republique Francaise" or "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite" - that will be on all French coins and doesn't help narrow down what it is.
It must be un sou (or Sol) still used in french language to designate little money. des sous (money) ça vaut pas un sou - it is worth nothing
'un sou' (alternative spelling 'sol') was a small French coin in the past. That still lives in the language in the expression 'avoir des sous' (to be rich).
Your coin is from England, not France. After all, if it were French it would say something like "Nouveau Centime" instead of having English words on it, correct - ??? English pennies dated 1971 and later are common circulation coins worth face value only, around 2¢
This can be found on early tokens from"Bank of The People Montreal". Minted around 1830's
I would say a lot of money but, a 1986 one is only worth $0.99.
I have a 1934 "un peso" silver 720 peso, what is it worth?
An uncirculated coin should have no wear whatsoever on it.
