there are many places throught the game that you find your rival in the game wether his name be red or Gary or whatever you pick
you first find him when you both pick your starter Pokemon and he apears sevral times including after you beat the elite four so in all for the elite four there are 5 people you have to beat
i don't know where all the places are because i would have to re-do the game to find out
