There is no specific/separate servlet development kit. Servlets can be developed and compiled using the standard JDK and JRE.
The only difference being the fact that - to run them you need a web server
Java Servlet Development Kit is an integrated development kit used to build, test, and deploy Java Servlet applications. JSDK allows most standard Web server such as Netscape servers, IIS, Apache and others to load servlets . JSDK is a suite of software for easing the development of Java servlets.
Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) provides an object-oriented, distributed and cross-platform framework for developing and deploying robust, secure and scalable E-Business and E-Commerce applications. J2EE enables efficient development of enterprise applications, while leveraging investments in existing business resources such as Database Systems, Messaging Systems and Naming and Directory Services. Using J2EE, enterprise developers may implement business objects using the Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) technology and deploy them across a wide range of J2EE compliant application servers. Enterprise developers may also build sophisticated clients for their E-Business applications using the Java Servlet, Java Server Pages (JSP), XML or the Java Applet technologies. These clients may be packaged and deployed on a Web Container. J2EE enables component-based development of both the business logic and the presentation logic. Using this approach, enables the development of thin HTML, DHTML and JavaScript based clients. J2EE also supports the development of complex clients as regular Java applications and applets. The J2EE platform provides access to a host of enterprise services using well-defined and standard Java Enterprise APIs that are listed below Java API for Web Services (JAX-WS) Java API for XML-Based RPC (JAX-RPC) Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB) SOAP with Attachments API for Java (SAAJ) Streaming API for XML (StAX) Web Service Metadata for the Java Platform, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) Java EE Connector Architecture (JCA) Java Servlet Java Server Faces (JSF)
Age old question. :) Simply Put: - If you need to execute any java program you need JRE (as the name says "Runtime Env"). - If you need to compile some java code you ll need JDK (as the name says "Development Kit"). One more thing to be noted is JRE will always be shipped with JDK because as I mentioned earlier JDK compiles the code, so if you want to execute the compiled code you need JRE. Hope this helps. . The "JDK" is the Java Development Kit. I.e., the JDK is bundle of software that you can use to develop Java based software. The "JRE" is the Java Runtime Environment. I.e., the JRE is an implementation of the Java Virtual Machine which actually executes Java programs. Typically, each JDK contains one (or more) JRE's along with the various development tools like the Java source compilers, bundling and deployment tools, debuggers, development libraries, etc.
The computer on which the software is being written. Sometimes, the term is even narrowly down to the tool(s) running on that computer. For example, your PC or notebook as a development platform (running Windows or MAC, UNIX, etc). Or Eclipse as the development platform to write Java or any other programs.
The Java plug-in for the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is safe for your computer in most cases. The Java company regularly tests for safety and security, so if a problem is detected a patch fix is released immediately.

Java Servlet is used for Server Side programming for developing Web Applications. It easily employs Database Connectivity. We can also use JSP however it cannot replace a Java Servlet.
Java Applet is an application designed to transmit on internet to execute on java compatible browsers. Java Servlet is a server side program used to provide services to clients.
Networking is a basic action. A servlet in Java is a single part of networking, a single task.
Download a SDK from java.com.
Yes you can but it is not required. A Servlet is nothing but another .java file and all rules that are applicable to standard Java classes are applicable to them. Note: Even if you write a constructor in a servlet, it will not get executed.
No. Javascript code can be present inside a JSP but not inside a servlet. A Servlet is a pure java class.
The Java Development Kit is free. See the related link below for the download page.
Tomcat is a server. It is used to deploy and run Servlets and not compile them. A Servlet is a java file and has to be compiled just like any other Java Class.
You cannot. HTML is a static file and it cannot interact with a Java Servlet. A Servlet can always redirect to a HTML page but the other way round cannot happen.
Advance java is the implementation of servlet in web pages.
No. Minecraft is written in Java, which means you either have to have a JDK (Java Development Kit) or JRE (Java Runtime Environment) to run the game. You can download and install the latest Java from their website (see related links).
