I've been researching it..and it turns out that there is most likely no such thing as a bird called an Artist.
No way to give exact figures, but the killdeer is a very common bird, most populous member of the plover family.
Globally, the species that is most commonly called a spurwing plover is vanellus spinosus, which is an African species. However, quite a few vanellus species have carpal spurs (on the bend of the wing), so get called spurwinged plover locally. In Australia, the local plover is vanellus miles, which is known as spurwinged there - globally it is usually known as the masked or Asian wattled plover.
many birds use this to draw you away from there nest ,most notably the lap wing.aka green plover
