Civil Liberties Act
Many states begun passing compulsory schooling laws which were not passed.
During the Progressive Era, several significant acts were passed to address social issues and promote reform. Notable legislation includes the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890, aimed at combating monopolies, and the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906, which established regulations for food safety and consumer protection. Additionally, the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 reformed the banking system, while the 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920, granted women the right to vote. These acts collectively sought to enhance democracy, improve public welfare, and regulate corporate power.
What social welfare programs were instituted during the progressive era
During the Progressive Era, which spanned from the 1890s to the 1920s, one significant act that was not passed was the Child Labor Law of 1916. Although there were efforts to regulate child labor, including the Keating-Owen Child Labor Act, the law was ultimately declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 1918. Additionally, while various reforms occurred, comprehensive federal regulations addressing issues like women’s suffrage and civil rights for African Americans were not fully realized until later.
