Magnification is the amount by which the image you see will be larger than the actual object, ie. if the image you see appears to be twice as large as the original object then it will be a 2x magnification. (magnification = size of image / size of object) Resolution is the smallest possible visible thing on the enlarged image. On a satellite picture the resolution may be 1m2 meaning that anything smaller is not visible on that picture. In the case of an electron microscope, for example, anything smaller than 1 electron will not be visible using the electron microscope.
When an image is virtual, it means the light seems to be coming from a specific source but it is not. So yes you can take a picture of it because the light is still going into the camera as if it was coming from an object. To put it another way, because we "see" a virtual image with our eyes a camera can take a picture of one. After all, a picture is just a permanent record of what is falling on the back of our eye balls.
The word "image" has several somewhat unrelated meanings. It may refer to a picture; however, it can also refer to a copy of computer data. For example, a computer file that contains a copy of all the information of a CD is said to be an "image" of the CD.
