The Falkland War was between Argentina and The United Kingdom. Argentina claimed the Falklands as their own terretory under the name Isles Malvinas and invaded the island in a suprise attack. Britain responded by sending a force that recaptured the Islands.

The Falkland War in 1982 involved Argentina and England. Argentina laid claim to the Falkland Islands, however, so did the British. Like Central Cyprus, Andorra, and Gibraltar, there was a strong British presence on the Falkland Islands. When the Argentina invaded, the British were successful in pushing them back and holding on to the islands.

The Falkland Islands are located off the coast of Argentina and are a self governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom.In 1982 Argentina invaded the islands. Argentina has long held claim to the islands that they call the Malvinas. The UK repelled this attack and freed the island. It has since come to light that many Argentine veterans were treated very poorly by their government and that some conscript were tortured by their own officers.

The Argentines believed that the islands had belonged to the Spanish empire and therefore belong to them. It is also theorized that there is a "tap into" the antarctic oil reserve ( which nobody can drill for because of the antarctic treaty) near or on the islands, bypassing the antarctic treaty meaning the islands are a bit more important than believed. This theory may be another motive for invasion and also would be a good reason why Britain defended it besides national pride.
