Benadryl®, or the generic diphenhydramine, is an antihistamine commonly used to treat allergy symptoms. It is also the primary ingredient in most over-the-counter sleep aids, because of its sedative side-effects.
If you've never taken diphenhydramine for sleep, chances are good that one will knock you out quickly. If you're still awake half-an-hour later, you can safely take a second dose, but no more.
Be aware that the sedative side-effects of diphenhydramine may last longer than expected, causing you to oversleep the next morning or feel groggy for several hours after waking.
If you have difficulty sleeping for more than two weeks, contact a physician for advice.

the blue benadryl with acrivastine is better as it can cause drowsiness
It is certainly not advisable to give benadryl daily to make a child sleep.
As a pharmacy doctorate candidate I would say that it is not recommended to give Zyrtec and Benadryl together since they will both relieve allergy symptoms in similar ways. Zyrtec is best if you want non-drowsy relief. Benadryl would be best if you want the child to sleep. Both however, are effective.
The Tylenol contains Benadryl, which causes drowsiness. So probably 30 minutes before you go to sleep is a good time to take it.Interestingly, as stated above, Tylenol does contain Diphenhydramine HCl (Benadryl), which is used for allergies, sleep aid, and motion sickness.only Tylenol pm has benadryl in it. you can take regular Tylenol any time of the day
sounds like you just did...
Benadryl, melatonin, or Dramamine will help you sleep
roll over and get comfortable. also giving your battle buddy benadryl the night prior will help you stay asleep for a longer period of time. Also if you yourself take benadryl you will indubitably sleep more.
No, it's an anti-histamine. It can also be used off-label as a sleep medication. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diphenhydramine
If the Triaminic has an "antihistamine" in it, then you don't need to take Benadryl. Benadryl is an antihistamine that usually stops the itchy nose/ears, and sneezing. If you look at the ingredient in Benadryl (plain Benadryl, it's pink) you will notice it's in a lot of cold medicines. It's also in some sleep medicines. It usually makes you drowsy, that is why.
I wouldn't advise using benadryl for sleeping problems. There are many things that can cause sleep issues but I would go see a doctor and maybe even get a second opinion. Good luck and hope you sleep better!
8 hours, or until you sleep and wake up again.
No, do not take 8 Benadryl at a time to help you sleep. You should not take 4 Benadryl either. If you are having trouble sleeping, you need to speak to your doctor.
The best over the counter medications for allergies are Zyrtec, Allegra and Benadryl. Zyrtec and Benadryl can cause fatigue so it's best to take it at night.
