Which GPS navigation system has been around longer - TomTom or Garmin?

The tomtom gps has been around longer. However, they are both reliable gps systems.

What do you recommend as the best GPS?
The two best types of GPS are the Garmin and the TomTom. I would go with the Garmin because it will last longer and take more falls, but the TomTom is usually just as good and more user friendly.
If you have clicked an 'add to tomtom' button unfortunately tomtom home cannot add the item to your tomtom device because there is something wrong with the button?
'add to Tomtom button' is no longer supported by Tomtom apparently. I've been moaning about this for months. Part of their withdrawing support for third party POIs.
Are iGo A32 and A53 the same?
Same mini USB connector, but the A32 fits a TomTom because it has a longer & narrower body, whereas the A53 body would not allow it to get in to the TomTom units.
How to connect a Garmin eTrex to a computer?
To connect a Garmin eTrex to a computer you may need an adaptor which then allows you to connect the Garmin to computer via serial to usb. Though, this is not the only way, it is highly recommended if you have a more modern computer that no longer or is unable to support Garmin compatibility. These adapters can be found on amazon. The rest is self explanatory.

The Gamin GPS is no longer the number one rated on the market. It has been replaced by the Andover-Himmels FinderMan GPS, and is no longer the number one rated.
Diskaid keeps telling me to close any app that might be locking the file when im trying to copy to PC when I don't even have an app that can do that?
This is for anyone who used to use Diskaid to import TomTom ov2 files into the TomTom App. Ok, I was using Diskaid to import my Work and Favourite POI's into my TomTom app. Then along comes the new IOS 1.6 and Diskaid no longer has access to the TomTom folders for writing files!! Well thanks Apple :-( Anyway, did a little investigation and found this app. http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/poi-viewer/id364906423?mt=8 It doesn't save anything into the TomTom app, but it does allow you to import .ov2 files (and many other formats I believe) using the file transfer facility in the iTunes APP page for your iPhone. Once imported, the POI's are viewable in the App and there's an option to get directions which opens the TomTom app and starts direction finding as usual. One thing I did notice is that it appears to always give you the fastest route, so if you want Non-Motorway or Twisting roads simply do a route recalculation and tell it what you want within TomTom. Sorted :-)
