As concerns Germans in the Post-World War II Era, Germany has developed a national sense of guilt and shame in the wake of the Holocaust and most Germans regret very strongly that they or their ancestors were part of that atrocity. To this day, Germans argue as to whether they are allowed to have patriotic spirit in the same way that many other countries, like the United States, do because nationalistic fervor brought on such a saddening and scary event.
