Dobson felt that McCain was too "liberal" to be trusted in many senses. McCain, for one, feels that the issue of Gay Marriage should be adjudicated at the state level; Dobson opposses this. Dobson wants a constitutional amendment to the United States Constitution instead. This is one of man of their departures from one another, and Dobson was one of many on the far right that bemoaned the selection of McCain for the Republican nomination.
