Pollination brings together the gametes of a flower and it occurs when

a pollen grain of the right kind lands on the stigma of the pistil. Each pollen

forms a tube that grows down through the pistil and reaches the ovule in

the ovary. One of the nuclei in the pollen tube unites with the egg nucleus

in the ovule to form a zygote. The other sperm nucleus combines with

another bigger nucleus in the ovule which develops into the endosperm.

What does the word pollen mean?

Pollen is the powdery sustance which forms on the stamens of flowers. When transfered to the pistil (either by gravity or the action of bees or other insects) the pistil is fertilized and a fruit will form.

What is the purpose of the pistil?

Can flowers with pistil but without stamen reproduce?

Yes, as long as the flower has the pistil and compatible pollen grains are available through pollenation

Do flowers reproduce by transferring pollen from the stamen to the pistil?

Yes. And they have elaborate evolutionarily designed means of making sure there own pollen is not doing the fertilization.

Pollen grains move from a flower's stamen to it's pistil during what?

During self pollination, pollen grains move from the stamen of a flower to its pistil. Cross pollination involves flowers from different plants.

What grows down the pistil of a flower?

The pistil is the female part of the flower. When pollen is transfered from the stamen of the same flower or another flower of the same or similar type by wind, insects, or q-tips, a seed forms inside the pistil. Plant breeders actually remove the stamen from selected flowers and place pollen from other flowers ion or in the pistil with q-tips so the plant that grows from the seed will have the desired characteristics.

When pollen is transferred from the stamen of flower to the pistil what occurred?

When pollen is transferred for the stamen to the pistil, the pollen helps the pistil create a fruit, which contains the seeds a plant needs to be grown from.
