The second amendment states: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.">The second; A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed..

The Second Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. The first 10 Amendments are collectively called the Bill of Rights.

The people of the United States form a militia that is able to keep guns to protect the freedoms of our United States. In the formal military we took an oath to "protect our country against all enemies foreign and domestic." This should also be the role of the militia.

None. Free Americans have ALWAYS had the right to bear arms, and the Second Amendment to the Constitution merely confirms this.

One reason why the Constitutional Convention took so long was in the debates between the Federalists, who claimed that the Constitution granted only limited powers to the Federal government, with the Anti-Federalists who feared that the federal government would overstep its limits. The anti-Federalists demanded a "bill of rights", specific rights that no government could EVER take away.

The Federalists reluctantly assented, feeling that it wouldn't do any harm, but that it wasn't needed. From our perspective 200 years later, we can see that the Federalists were foolish idiots, and that the Anti-Federalists had correctly foreseen the future. From about 1910 and onwards, the federal government has increasingly imposed unconstitutional laws and regulations, and only the absolute prohibitions in the Bill of Rights protects some of our rights, for some of the people, some of the time. A majority of Congress would officially repudiate the Constitution if they dared, and ignore it to the greatest extent possible.
