However.
Sometimes, animals thought to be extinct can be found existing in isolated areas of their former habitat. Two examples are the ivory billed woodpecker and Bachman's warbler of the southern U.S.
Both species were declared extinct, then strong video and eyewitness accounts by qualified observers show they are still with us.
