Duties for welding?

There is a wide range of duties in welding depending on the industry you want to enter. Some examples would be: Basic welding which would include things like patching or repairing items such as auto mufflers, farm equipment, personal property or consumer items. Semi advanced welding which would include things like non code fabrication and repair of items such as ornamental metals, trailer building, or non critical fabrications. Advanced welding which would include welding on buildings, pipelines, bridges, etc.. This area generally requires welding certification. Super skilled welding which would include welding medical, aerospace, nuclear, underwater, etc.. In some industries, you are required to weld, prepare and grind, move your equipment and supplies. In others, you could be at a work bench with cotton gloves while others prepare or move your supplies and equipment for you. Generally speaking, the less training and certifications you have, the more physical the work is. By no means think that welding is still the old "big hammer and small hard hat". Very skilled welders are in high demand, paid and treated well. A good source of information would be WWW.AWS.ORG.

Which is the oldest type of welding?

When man started to melt and cast metal he would pour the molten metal into a mold, usually formed in the sand. If he wanted to join two or more of these "castings" he would place them close together and pour more molten metal where they touched. This would melt the edges of the two castings and upon cooling join them with weld. This is a basic welding process.

How would you extract information from drawings and welding procedure specifications?

What metal is not used to weld the gas tungsten welding process?

The tungsteng electrode, because this one not is a filler metal in this process. The individual may be asking what metal can you not weld using the TIG process. In that case cast iron, zinc (including zinc coated metals), lead and any metal with a low melting temperature would be the answer.

How Much Does Welding School Cost?

As one of the increasingly stable locations for dislocated and unemployed workers to go into, the industry of welding has seen a definite rise in applications for students in vocational schools that have welding programs. The top priority for most of the people who are looking to attend welding school is the cost of welding school, and this is definitely a major concern with many people having to deal with the implications of a volatile economy and an unstable job market. There are two major distinctions of welding schools when it comes to costs. There are welding schools that are administered by vocational schools, and there are also welding schools that are administered by the more traditional university and college system. The cost of welding school is definitely lower if it is administered by vocational school and if it is administered by a university or college system. The reason for this is that the University and College administration of the welding school is most likely only a small part of the amount of programs affiliated with the university or college. A part of the tuition that a person would pay for attending the welding school would go towards all of the programs that aren't ministered by that university or college. However, with a vocational school that only deals specifically with a welding program, the entire tuition goes towards the cost of welding school and no other program. This is highly attractive for many workers who have been identified as unemployable or dislocated, or those who have recently returned from service in the armed forces and are looking for a way to incorporate themselves back into civilian life. These people are usually very motivated when it comes to paying the cost of welding school, but many banks will not give them loans for university programs, which continue to go up in cost year after year. Faced with this decision, many people choose to go to welding schools at vocational programs. This is advantageous for many reasons, including the increased flexibility of a vocational program, as well as the lower cost of the vocational program as compared to a university.

In which industry does TIG welder typically finds employment?

TIG welding, i.e. tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, is primarily used in the aerospace industry. Thus TIG welder would typically find employment there.

Which welding process is used primarily for welding ferrous metals such as iron and steel?

I would say that SMAW (stick) is still the most widely used process. The GMAW (mig) process has gained a wide acceptance in construction and fabrication and may even have surpassed stick welding in many situations. Unfortunately with mig welding the machine has to be close to the welding site. Dragging a welding lead into and around fabrications is still much easier than moving a mig machine.

Purpose of oxy-acetylene welding?

You have oxygen and acetylene to blend into the tip for a flame. It will be regulated by adjusting the regulators on the bottles and the welding handle will have adjusting ability for the temperature you need for the metal you are welding.

Are there any welding schools in Illinois?

There most certainly are! There is even a school called Illinois Welding School. Since I dont know your area, i am unsure on the location this is to your area. It would be best for you to either do a local search to find colleges that offer welding courses, or look in your local phonebook. Most larger colleges and Universities will offer welding classes and technical training that will allow you have a successful career in the welding industry, even underwater welding is available in Illinois.

What is Welding process?

There is no BEST process for all conditions/situations/materials/applications. Easiest to use would probably be GMAW (MIG welding). Most useful for all applications and metals including cutting OAW (Oxy-Acetylene welding) usually referred a to as Oxy-Fuel. Most widely used process is probably SMAW (stick welding) which would also be most portable and cheapest to purchase. GTAW (TIG/Heliarc) is used mostly indoors on thinner and or non ferrous metals ( Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and most alloys. If I were to set up a shop at home I would consider a DC stick welding machine (preferably a rectifier type) and an Oxy-Acetylene setup.

Where could one find help with welding hoods to cars?

If you already know how to weld, there are many forums online where you can find advice for this specific job, such as WeldingWeb. If you need help with the welding process itself, a local welding shop or auto body shop would be the place to look.

It would seem you did, as plama acr welding does not exist

Is O2 also added to shielding gas in tungsten arc welding process?

No, that would defeat the purpose. Shielding gases must be inert (e.g. argon, helium).
