As a former air force brat I must say that the current list of candidates is pretty close. But I take exception to the inclusion of the F-35 which is not an air to air fighter. In USAF jargon it is a "Bomb Truck" with limited dog fighting capability, although some of the radar and avionics are newer than it's Big Brother the F-22 Raptor, the F-35 cannot even out fly current 4th and 4.5 generation aircraft, and was designed by Lockheed to be a Force Multiplier. Meaning it would rely on F-22 and F-15 and Super Hornets to assist, and defend it when undergoing strike missions. I am pleased that several prospective buyers of the F-35 are changing their minds, if I was to chose the two very best I would say the F-22 Raptor and the Su-50 Faker are the ultimate fighters. But the USAF only has 48 F-22 on hand and the Sukhoi is still in the development phase. The Eurofighter and Rafale are the next best, with the F-15E and F-18F and Sukhoi Flanker series rounding out the group. The Saab and F-16, F-18s' are still in the loop but are "Long in the Tooth", there days are numbered. I hope this clarifies things, P.S. I experienced the SR-71 Blackbird and it is NOT a fighter but I consider it the Ultimate aircraft ever.
