Jeremiah 36 records a scroll of prophecy which is cut into pieces and burnt piece by piece in a fire which was burning in a hearth. This was done by King Jehoiakim. Thus, it appears that part of the prophecy which now forms the book of Jeremiah the prophet was burned. A summary of some of the details which were in the burned scroll are repeated later in chapter 36. Fortunately, God commanded another roll with the same prophecies to be written again. Although we do not have a specific heading such as 'this is the prophecy that was burnt and rewritten' we do know that dire judgments were contained in this prophecy, as is typical of the prophecy of Jeremiah. So it is likely that this prophecy was preserved among the book of Jeremiah we now have.
