There are plenty mid-range camcorders that have this feature, but consider getting Canon camcorders if wind noise is a big concern.
It is dual purpose, it protects the internal components of the microphone and also helps prevent "hard" sounds that degrade the quality of recording. Examples would be a hard "p" sound, which creates a "poof" noise or an extended "s" which creates a static noise. The mesh helps filter these noises from the recording or amplification.
The microphone ears noise and a ear here sound also
Microphones are connected to input devices that read the voltage from them and hence are not driven to make noise. If you connect a power source to a magnetic or crystal microphone you can get some noise but not much. The speaker is very small and not designed for produciing sound Many microphones are dynamic and use capacitance. Hence you can not drive them like a magnetic microphone. Note: you can use a speaker as a microphone.
The 3CCD camcorders are different in the sense that they use three separate imagining devices. It takes separate images of the primary colors. For this reason they take high resolute pictures requiring little noise to be operated. The single camcorders are less expensive.

The Quindar tones were there because of the button the astronauts had to press made that noise. The noise was there just to indicate that the microphone was being turned on/ off. And Hustons microphone didnt require a beep as it was an open line
It is a noise cancelling microphone that filters out background noises when you are talking to someone else. It has been in use since the iPhone 5.
Newer digital camcorders can record much more, and store it in a noise-free digital format, whereas the same could not be said for tape camcorders.

It depends on what is making the noise.
Singstar microphones are great in situations where you need good noise reduction.
