Most pro SLR cameras have a firewire port for quick data transfer of large pictures.
Most brands of camcorders are compatible with a Mac - providing both camera and Mac have the right USB or Firewire connections.
firewire
Yes! I mean "maybe". You cannot use a USB cable to connect the camera to your Macbook, and the currently shipping Macbooks only have USB. You need to use a Firewire (Sony calls this an iLink cable) and only older (2009 vintage and older) Macbooks have this connection. Look on the left side of your Macbook. If one of the ports has the Firewire symbol (looks like a "Y") then you are all set - your camera and computer are compatible!
Yes. While not as popular as USB, firewire is still definitely used today. Today, firewire is the dominant way of transferring digital video from a camera to a PC. Update: Yes if you have a free compatible expansion slot (e.g. PCI), your Firewire or 1394 card will still be usable. I recently added a my old PCI Firewire card to one of the new machines. These are used primarily for Video capture/transfer or even for some external HDD or DVD drives which have a Firewire interface. - Neeraj Sharma
It depends on the camera. Digital cameras will have either a Firewire or a USB connector and some have both. If the camera has both, it is likely that either can be used to transfer video to a computer although some older cameras used Firewire for video transfer and USB for still image transfer. It is always worth checking the camera's manual to find out the functions of the data ports.
FireWire (technically known as an IEEE 1394 interface) is an interface developed by Apple that allows you to plug peripherals such as video cameras into your computer. Most Macs come with a FireWire interface, some Windows PCs have fireWire built in or they can have it added by adding a FireWire card. Some manufacturers adopt their own name for the IEEE 1394 interface; Sony, for example, call it an iLink. If you have a camera, or some other peripheral, with a FireWire interface it will have come with a FireWire cable which you plug into your computer to allow the two to connect so you can transfer your video/images from the camera to the computer.
Yes and no. It will charge the Touch, but you can't use the firewire cable for data transport.
If the computer is able to accept PCI cards you will need to add a FireWire card to the computer and connect the camera to that. (See links below)

It uses a 4 to 6 pin firewire which should hook up straight from the camera to the computer.
They are not always compatible. There are minimum hardware and software requirements. It is possible to use adapters and upgrade hardware in order to make them compatible.
yes Well, not all. You can easily find lists of compatible devices online. Apple being Apple, they like to use 'Firewire' webcams since the data transfer is much faster and superme to USB devices. The official apple external iSight camera (which I do not know if they still sell officially!) is Firewire and is guaranteed to work!... :-)
